Pakistan is modernising its business and trade laws to international standards, with greater transparency and digitalisation aimed at promoting investment, innovation and economic growth, SECP Chairman Kabir Ahmed Sidhu has said.
Speaking in connection with the inauguration of the Pakistan operations of Mobiz in Karachi, Sidhu said the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) was working to align regulations with international standards.
He said the reforms cover the corporate sector, capital markets, insurance, non-bank financial services and corporate debt markets.
“The government is working to create a transparent, efficient and technology-enabled regulatory environment” to support businesses, investment and innovation, Sidhu said.

He added that Pakistan was continuously simplifying and modernising its regulatory frameworks to make them more efficient and business-friendly.
Sidhu also highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s young workforce in the technology sector. He said the government aimed to position the country as an important regional hub for the global technology industry.
Mobiz CEO Hamad Riaz said the company works as a specialist partner of Microsoft and provides services globally across eight information technology specialisations.
He said the company also operates in several Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman.
Meanwhile, Shahid Memon, chairman of the Pakistan Disabled Foundation, praised Mobiz’s corporate social responsibility initiatives to support people with disabilities.
Technology experts Jehan Ara and Azfar Hussain also highlighted opportunities for young Pakistanis in entrepreneurship and emerging technology sectors.
Ghulam Farooq Leghari, Director General of the Sindh Authority for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities, welcomed the company’s efforts to improve access to modern technology for people with disabilities. He also expressed support for joint initiatives aimed at creating greater opportunities.
Mobiz Head of Data and AI Dr Akbar Gardizi said the company planned to expand its investment in Pakistan. He said Mobiz would provide software, artificial intelligence support and other technology facilities for people with special needs and disabilities.
The event highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its regulatory environment while encouraging technology investment, innovation and greater inclusion in the digital economy.
