Karachi: Yango Pakistan, part of global tech firm Yango Group, has partnered with NOWPDP to launch “Baikhtiyar Pakistan,” an inclusive mobility and livelihood initiative aimed at creating income-generating opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The programme was formally inaugurated at the NOWPDP Centre of Excellence for Disability Inclusion in Karachi by Sindh’s Provincial Minister for Labour, Information and Human Resources, Saeed Ghani.
Retrofitted Rickshaws Distributed
Under the first phase of the initiative, five retrofitted rickshaws were distributed to persons with disabilities shortlisted by NOWPDP. Organisers said the vehicles have been modified to ensure accessibility and operational ease, enabling beneficiaries to generate income through the Yango ride-hailing platform.
The partners plan to expand the fleet in subsequent phases as part of a broader strategy to scale the programme nationwide.
Promoting Digital and Economic Inclusion
Officials described the initiative as part of Yango Group’s wider commitment to advancing economic empowerment and digital inclusion across its markets.
Speaking at the launch, Miral Sharif, Country Head of Yango Pakistan, said the programme seeks to eliminate structural barriers to employment.
“Disability should never become an obstacle between will and opportunity. We are proud to pioneer a programme that promotes sustainable earning opportunities for persons with disabilities within Pakistan’s ride-hailing sector,” she said, adding that the company intends to expand similar partnerships in the future.
Call for Policy Support
Amin Hashwani, President of NOWPDP, highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in advancing disability inclusion.
He said initiatives such as Baikhtiyar Pakistan demonstrate how industry innovation can align with social development goals. However, he stressed that sustainable progress also requires forward-looking legislation to actively facilitate workforce participation for persons with disabilities.

Through Baikhtiyar Pakistan, Yango aims to integrate technology-driven solutions with social impact, reinforcing its role as a mobility partner supporting inclusive growth in Pakistan.
Organisers said the programme reflects a broader push toward creating accessible economic opportunities and fostering a more inclusive labour market for persons with disabilities.
