Pinktober 2026 brought a renewed focus to breast cancer awareness in Pakistan, shifting the conversation beyond symbolic celebrations towards prevention, early detection, evidence-based treatment and the overall wellbeing of women and their families.
Initiated by Sarwat N. Shah, Founder of Khudi Wellness and Foundation, the initiative was brought to life in collaboration with Sarfraz Dennis of Saving Lives and CBNC.
Held on October 30 at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi, the event brought together healthcare professionals, social organisations, corporate leaders, breast cancer survivors and community advocates to strengthen collective efforts towards women’s health.
Moving beyond conventional awareness gatherings, Pinktober 2026 aimed to promote practical action, reduce stigma and highlight the importance of medical care alongside emotional and psychological support.

Multidisciplinary Discussion Highlights Women’s Health
A panel discussion brought together breast surgeon Dr Rufina Soomro, ultrasound specialist Dr Farah Faisal, nutritionist Dr Hina Anis and naturopath Dr Azmat Irfan.

Sarwat N. Shah, an integrative therapist and Founder of Khudi Wellness, moderated the discussion, guiding participants through different aspects of breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and emotional recovery.
The panel highlighted several priorities, including preventive healthcare, timely medical consultations, regular breast self-examinations and age- and risk-appropriate screening.
Speakers also discussed the role of balanced nutrition, healthy dietary habits, physical activity and sustainable lifestyle choices in supporting overall health and reducing modifiable health risks.
The discussion explored the relevance of the Prophetic way of life, or Sunnah, through principles such as moderation, mindful eating, personal hygiene, spiritual balance and healthy daily routines.
Emotional and psychological support also emerged as a key theme. Participants stressed that breast cancer affects more than a patient’s physical health and that women need compassion, emotional security and support from families, caregivers and healthcare professionals throughout their treatment and recovery.
Collective Oath Promotes Women’s Holistic Health
An oath-taking ceremony facilitated by the Samina Alvi Foundation became an important part of the event.
The initiative encouraged women to prioritise their overall wellbeing and take greater responsibility for preventive healthcare. It also urged participants to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection within their families and communities.

Breast Cancer Survivors Share Stories of Courage
One of the event’s most moving segments celebrated breast cancer survivors who have turned their personal experiences into opportunities to inspire and educate others.
Special appreciation went to Samra Zeeshan and Josephine Permal for their contributions and inspiring journeys.
Their stories highlighted the importance of hope, resilience and peer support, reminding participants that a breast cancer diagnosis does not define a woman’s identity or future.
Angeline K. Malik also highlighted the importance of genetic awareness, particularly BRCA1 testing for individuals with relevant family histories or clinical indications. She emphasised how genetic counselling and appropriate testing can help inform preventive healthcare decisions.
Community Leaders and Changemakers Attend
The event welcomed several distinguished guests and supporters, including Rajvir Singh Sodha, Irfan Soomro, Fazal Dadabhoy, Hanif Gohar, Asif Moosa, Kashif Shah, Iqbal Qureshi, Durdaana Arshad, Irum Fawad, Shanaz Ramzi, Zulfiqar Halepoto, Ayesha Islam, Barrister Sahar Iqbal and Ishtiaq Baig.
Their participation reflected broader community support for initiatives focused on women’s health and wellbeing.
Pinktober 2026 Looks Beyond October
Organisers envisioned Pinktober 2026 as more than a one-day gathering or an annual awareness campaign. The initiative seeks to encourage a lasting culture of prevention, early detection, accessible healthcare, emotional support and shared community responsibility.
Its central message was that women deserve more than awareness. They need access to preventive healthcare, timely diagnosis, quality treatment, psychological support and the opportunity to live healthy and dignified lives.
Through Khudi Wellness, Sarwat N. Shah aims to strengthen connections between medical science, mental health, community engagement and social responsibility, keeping women’s holistic wellbeing at the centre of the conversation.
