Tashkent: Uzbekistan marked a significant day in its national history – the Day of Remembrance and Honor – with a series of events commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II. This solemn occasion honored the heroism of those who fought in the war, as well as the millions of Uzbek citizens who contributed to the war effort and the servicemen who sacrificed their lives during the years of independence.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev led the commemoration, delivering a heartfelt message to the people of Uzbekistan. The President expressed deep respect for war veterans, acknowledging their enduring contributions to the development of New Uzbekistan. He highlighted the immense sacrifice made by Uzbekistan during the war, noting that of the 6.8 million citizens, nearly 2 million joined the fight against fascism, with almost 540,000 perishing and many more enduring hardships.

The central commemoration took place at Tashkent’s Victory Park, where President Mirziyoyev laid a wreath at the “Ode to Fortitude” monument. Special attention was also paid to historical education, with the government promoting events and literature to pass down the stories of war heroes to younger generations. Additionally, veterans were honored with special financial support and recognition.

This year’s observance was a reminder of the sacrifices made during World War II and the responsibility to preserve peace, unity, and national pride for future generations.
