Police fail to submit strong charge sheet against Anmol Pinky

Prosecution raises objections over delayed investigation, weak evidence in murder case involving alleged drug trafficker Anmol alias Pinky.

KARACHI: Sindh Police have failed to submit a strong interim charge sheet in the murder case of alleged drug trafficker Anmol alias Pinky, according to court proceedings in Karachi.

Police submitted an interim challan along with a scrutiny report before the Judicial Magistrate South, but the prosecution raised serious objections over the investigation’s shortcomings.

Deputy District Public Prosecutor Araf Sittai, who was tasked with supporting the prosecution case, noted multiple procedural lapses in the investigation.

According to the scrutiny report, there was a delay of nearly one month in registering the case, while the submission of the charge sheet was also delayed by 12 days.

The prosecution pointed out that the investigating officer failed to properly establish the identity of the deceased and did not collect or preserve crucial CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas. It was stated that digital evidence was essential to establish links between the accused and alleged narcotics networks.

The report further highlighted that no serious effort was made to locate or record statements of independent eyewitnesses who could confirm whether the deceased had interactions with drug dealers or the accused’s associates.

Officials also noted that chemical examination reports of the deceased’s bodily samples were still pending, making the investigation incomplete.

The prosecution emphasized that the interim report was being submitted in accordance with legal requirements, but a final charge sheet would only be presented once the investigation is completed and forensic reports are received.

Authorities maintained that further evidence collection is necessary to strengthen the case before trial proceedings can advance.
