The Consulate of Italy in Karachi hosted World Italian Pasta Day 2026, bringing together local stakeholders, officials, diplomats and friends of Italy to celebrate Italian cuisine and its cultural significance.
The event formed part of a global initiative promoting pasta as an expression of Italian identity, culinary heritage and manufacturing excellence under the broader Made in Italy campaign.
Consul Highlights Cultural Ties Through Food
Addressing guests, Italian Consul in Karachi Fabrizio Bielli said the Consulate was hosting World Pasta Day for the first time following the success of Italian Cuisine Week celebrations in Karachi.
Bielli said the Consulate intended to organise more initiatives promoting Italian culture and gastronomy in collaboration with local partners and stakeholders, particularly businesses operating in the hotel, restaurant, catering (Ho.Re.Ca.) and food sectors.

He also praised Pakistan’s openness to international cuisines, noting that the country embraces global culinary traditions while incorporating local aromas, flavours and creativity into traditional and fusion dishes.
“Good food knows no borders,” the Consul said, highlighting food’s ability to connect cultures and communities.
Global Celebrations Promote Italian Cuisine
This year’s World Pasta Day celebrations returned to Italy on October 27 and 28 at Fiere di Parma, alongside the Cibus Tec exhibition. The event brought together industry professionals, institutions and representatives from across the pasta supply chain.
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, invited Italian diplomatic missions worldwide to mark the occasion and promote pasta as a symbol of Italian culture, identity and industrial capability.

The initiative is coordinated by the International Pasta Organization (IPO), a non-profit organisation established in Rome in 2006. The IPO brings together pasta-industry associations from 18 countries and works to raise international awareness of pasta, encourage its consumption and highlight its nutritional value.
World Pasta Day has been celebrated annually on October 25 since 1995, when Rome hosted the first World Pasta Congress with participation from pasta-making associations worldwide.
Italy’s Pasta Industry and Global Reach
Pasta remains one of Italy’s most recognisable international products and an important part of its agri-food industry.
According to the press release, Italy produced approximately 4.2 million tonnes of pasta in 2025, with more than 60% destined for export. The country’s pasta industry contributes to promoting Italian culture, social traditions and economic and manufacturing expertise worldwide.

With more than 350 recognised pasta shapes, the food also offers a metaphor for international cooperation. As Bielli noted, different traditions and methods can coexist while people share fundamental needs and aspirations.
The Karachi celebration underscored the role of food diplomacy in strengthening cultural connections and creating opportunities for cooperation between Italy and Pakistan.
