Ethiopian Embassy hosted the Ethio-Pakistan

Karachi/ Islamabad: A high-level delegation of Ethiopian government officials and climate experts arrived in Karachi on Friday to launch the “Plant Fraternity” initiative across Pakistan, marking a significant step in bilateral environmental cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
The delegation was warmly welcomed at Jinnah International Airport by H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) to Pakistan, and H.E. Ibrahim Khalid Tawab, Honorary Consul in Karachi, alongside officials from Ethiopian Airlines and Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation is scheduled to visit Islamabad and Lahore for a series of Ethio-Pakistan Green Dialogues and mass plantation drives, coordinated by the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s Green Legacy Initiative and aims to strengthen bilateral ties through environmental cooperation.
Ethio-Pakistan Green Dialogue in Sindh
On Saturday, the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad hosted the Ethio-Pakistan Green Legacy Dialogue in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Minister of Sindh. The forum, co-presided by Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula and CM Syed Murad Ali Shah, focused on knowledge exchange and best practices to combat climate change, land degradation, and deforestation.
Dr. Adefires Worku Gizaw, Chair of the Green Legacy Technical Committee, highlighted Ethiopia’s roadmap for afforestation, reforestation, food security, job creation, soil and water management, and other green initiatives. From Pakistan, H.E. Zubair Ahmed, Secretary of Environment and Climate Change, shared insights into Sindh’s climate policies and green initiatives.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker emphasized Ethiopia’s leadership in the global climate agenda, stressing the urgent need for sustainable development and the socio-economic impacts of climate change on developing nations. He invited the Government of Sindh to send a delegation to the Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa from September 8-10, 2025, to further strengthen environmental cooperation.
Pakistan-Ethiopia Cooperation for a Greener Future
CM Syed Murad Ali Shah appreciated the initiative, highlighting the importance of bilateral knowledge exchange for environmental conservation and food security. He confirmed Sindh’s participation in the upcoming Climate Summit in Ethiopia, reinforcing the shared commitment to green development, sustainability, and climate resilience.
The arrival of the Ethiopian delegation sends a strong message that Pakistan is not alone in its fight against climate change, showcasing a growing partnership aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, afforestation, and climate awareness across both nations.
