Karachi: The Consulate General of Malaysia in Karachi commemorated the 68th Anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence with a solemn flag-hoisting ceremony held at its premises under the national theme “Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni” (Malaysia Madani: A Nation Cares for Its People).

The event began with the raising of the Jalur Gemilang, Malaysia’s national flag, accompanied by the national anthem Negaraku. It was attended by Malaysians residing in Karachi, friends of Malaysia, students, families, and members of the local community, all united in the spirit of patriotism and solidarity.

In his address, H.E. Herman Hardynata Ahmad, Consul General of Malaysia in Karachi, reflected on the sacrifices of Malaysia’s founding generation in achieving independence and reaffirmed the commitment of Malaysians abroad to uphold peace, inclusivity, and compassion in line with the Malaysia Madani vision.

Highlighting major achievements in 2025, he noted:

  • The successful launch of AirAsia X direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Karachi on May 30, boosting connectivity and exchanges;
  • The ASEAN Friendship Bowling Tournament in Karachi, fostering camaraderie among ASEAN missions and the local community;
  • Celebrations of Malaysian cultural festivals with the diaspora; and
  • The upcoming “Jom! Malaysia Chalo!” exhibition (Sept 13–15 at Marriott Hotel Karachi), showcasing Malaysian education, trade, tourism, and culture.

The Consul General expressed confidence that these initiatives will further deepen Malaysia–Pakistan relations and enhance ASEAN’s role in the region as Malaysia chairs ASEAN in 2025.

As part of the celebration, guests enjoyed a feast of traditional Malaysian delicacies, symbolizing friendship and cultural exchange. The ceremony concluded with prayers for Malaysia’s peace, prosperity, and unity.
