Katrina Kaif is now widely recognised for her energetic dance performances in Bollywood, but choreographer Bosco Martis has revealed that the actor was once told she had no dancing ability and should quit.
Speaking on a podcast hosted by Bosco and Caesar, the choreographers reflected on Katrina’s early career and her transformation into one of Hindi cinema’s most prominent dance performers.
Bosco recalled an incident from the beginning of Katrina’s career when another choreographer reportedly dismissed her abilities despite the effort she was putting into learning. According to Bosco, Katrina was told she was a “zero” at dancing and should leave the field.
The criticism, however, appears to have motivated her to work harder and develop her skills. Farah Khan, who also discussed the episode, suggested that Katrina may not have been as inexperienced as the harsh assessment implied.
Farah identified Sheila Ki Jawaani as a major turning point in Katrina’s dancing career. She said the actor’s performance in the song transformed how audiences viewed her abilities and helped establish her as a leading dance performer.

Bosco also described Sheila Ki Jawaani as a “game changer” for Katrina. The actor subsequently delivered several hugely popular dance performances, including Chikni Chameli and Kala Chashma.
Katrina had earlier spoken about being told that she could not dance and admitted that the criticism made her question whether she would ever become a good dancer. She has credited Bosco with encouraging her by telling her that she could dance but needed to continue working on her craft.
Bosco and Caesar later choreographed Katrina for Touch Me from Race, adding to their professional association with the actor.
Over the years, Katrina built an impressive record of popular dance numbers, appearing in songs such as Kamli, Swag Se Swagat, Afghan Jalebi and Nachde Ne Saare, alongside her widely remembered performances in Chikni Chameli and Kala Chashma.
Her journey from facing doubts about her dancing ability to becoming a major Bollywood dance icon has since become an example of how persistence and consistent training can reshape a performer’s career.
Katrina was last seen on screen in Merry Christmas in 2024. Since then, she has largely stayed away from films while focusing on motherhood.
