Karachi: foodpanda, Pakistan’s leading online delivery platform, has announced the findings of a landmark study titled “Economic Impact Assessment of foodpanda in Pakistan,” independently conducted by the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). The comprehensive report reveals foodpanda’s substantial contribution of USD 1.2 billion (PKR 335 billion) to Pakistan’s economy during FY 2023–2024.

The first-of-its-kind study, led by a team of experts at LUMS, utilized primary and secondary data, alongside input-output multipliers, to evaluate foodpanda’s broad economic footprint across multiple sectors including food, hospitality, retail, manufacturing, and transport.

foodpanda’s Expanding Economic Footprint

The assessment shows that foodpanda facilitated PKR 75 billion in restaurant GMV (Gross Merchandise Value), directly boosting income and employment in the food service industry. In addition, the platform contributed PKR 9.76 billion in taxes in FY 2023–24.

With more than 50,000 active riders and a growing base of digital entrepreneurs, foodpanda is playing a key role in driving financial inclusion via fintech tools, especially for gig workers and small-scale vendors.

Empowering Micro-Entrepreneurs and Gig Workers

Significantly, the platform has led to 100% income growth for over 13,000 partner restaurants, while 7,000+ HomeChefs (primarily women) are now earning an average of PKR 120,000 per month. Additionally, 57% of foodpanda riders reported income increases, further showcasing the platform’s impact on livelihood enhancement.

Leadership Perspectives on the Findings

Commenting on the study, Muntaqa Peracha, CEO of foodpanda Pakistan, stated:
“This in-depth study by LUMS validates foodpanda’s transformative role in Pakistan’s economy. It demonstrates how digital platforms can boost income, generate employment, and drive tax revenue—all while enabling financial inclusion and innovation. We remain committed to building a prosperous digital future for the country.”

Dr. Kashif Z. Malik, Associate Professor at LUMS, added:
“foodpanda’s impact goes far beyond delivery—it catalyzes economic growth across sectors, empowers entrepreneurs, and strengthens the digital economy. Our research shows that digital platforms like foodpanda are integral to inclusive and sustainable development in Pakistan.”

A Catalyst for Pakistan’s Digital Future

The study positions foodpanda as a key contributor to Pakistan’s evolving digital ecosystem, encouraging further local and international investment in tech-driven platforms. Through its continued commitment to innovation, inclusion, and small business empowerment, foodpanda is helping shape a more prosperous and digitally connected Pakistan.
