The federal government has reduced petrol and high-speed diesel prices following its latest revision of petroleum product rates, according to an official notification.
The price of petrol has been cut by Rs1.70 per litre, bringing it down to Rs392.05 per litre. The government reduced the price of high-speed diesel by Rs3.12 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs418.96 per litre.
The latest adjustment comes as the government moves towards the daily determination of petroleum prices, allowing fuel rates to respond more frequently to changes in international oil markets and other factors affecting petroleum costs.
Petrol is primarily used by private vehicles, motorcycles and other light transport, while high-speed diesel is widely consumed by commercial transport, heavy vehicles and several business and industrial sectors.

The reduction is therefore expected to affect both individual motorists and businesses that depend on petroleum products for transportation and daily operations.
The move comes amid continued efforts to make domestic fuel pricing more responsive to market conditions. More frequent adjustments could allow changes in global petroleum prices to be reflected in local rates at shorter intervals.
For consumers, the latest cuts provide some relief at fuel stations, while transport operators and businesses may also see an impact on operating costs depending on fuel consumption and future price movements.
