WASHINGTON: Sean “Diddy” Combs has been transferred from a federal prison in New Jersey to a low-security facility in Pennsylvania, according to a person familiar with the matter, following reports about his conduct and conditions at his previous institution.
The 56-year-old music mogul is being moved from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix to FCI Allenwood Low, south of Williamsport and approximately 155 miles (250 kilometres) west of New York City, the person told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss the transfer publicly.
The US Bureau of Prisons confirmed the move but declined to provide further details, citing privacy, safety and security considerations.
“Decisions about inmate placement are made by the BOP, and we are not in a position to speak to the circumstances surrounding this transfer,” Combs’ spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, said.
“Sean remains focused on moving forward, and we hope that his time at the new facility will be productive and without unnecessary disruption,” he added.
Reports of Conditions at Previous Prison
The transfer follows reports about Combs’ activities at FCI Fort Dix. Last month, NBC News reported that he had allegedly continued to enjoy aspects of his former millionaire lifestyle while incarcerated.
The report alleged that Combs had obtained prohibited alcohol, used a contraband cellphone to access social media and private images, and relied on fellow inmates for services including cooking, cleaning and massages.
These claims were reported by NBC News and have not been independently established here.
Separately, TMZ reported on Wednesday that Combs had been injured in a fight with another inmate and taken outside the prison for medical treatment.
The Bureau of Prisons rejected that account in a statement to the AP, saying: “The story you are referring to is false and did not happen.”
The agency did not publicly link the transfer to either report.
Disciplinary Action and Release Date
According to the person familiar with the matter, Combs was placed in the special housing unit at Fort Dix following the NBC News report. The secured unit is used to separate inmates from the general population for disciplinary or security reasons.
The person also said Combs had lost 41 days of good-conduct credit, moving his projected release date to March 2, 2028.
The Bureau of Prisons has not publicly detailed the circumstances surrounding the reported disciplinary action.
Conviction and Appeal
Combs is serving a sentence of four years and two months following his conviction last year on prostitution-related charges involving the transportation of people across state lines for sexual encounters.
The trial included testimony about violence and sexual encounters that Combs referred to as “freak-offs”. The case brought renewed scrutiny to the former music executive, once one of the entertainment industry’s most influential figures.
In April, the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments in Combs’ appeal against his conviction and sentence. His lawyers argued that the punishment was too harsh.
The appeals court has yet to issue a ruling.
Combs’ transfer to Pennsylvania marks a change in his place of incarceration, but officials have not publicly explained the specific reasons for the move. Reports about alleged misconduct and the purported prison fight remain distinct matters, with the Bureau of Prisons explicitly disputing the claim that he was injured in an altercation.
