Actor Imran Khan’s long-awaited return to Bollywood has been clouded by uncertainty after he reportedly received a notice directing him to leave India by October 28.
The development comes as the actor, best known for films including Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, I Hate Luv Storys and Delhi Belly, prepares to return to a leading role after nearly 11 years away from the big screen.
According to a police official, the action followed Imran’s participation in a protest in Mumbai on October 10, where demonstrators called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Imran, who is the nephew of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, is reportedly preparing to challenge the notice in the Bombay High Court.
Comeback Plans Face Uncertainty
Imran has gradually returned to public attention after years away from the limelight. Earlier this year, he made a brief appearance in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos and began preparing for his next film with filmmaker Danish Aslam.

The notice has raised questions about whether the actor will be able to continue his professional commitments in India, including meetings, promotional activities and other work connected with upcoming projects.
However, the impact on his acting career remains unclear as he prepares to contest the notice through legal channels.
Upcoming Film With Danish Aslam
One of the projects generating interest around Imran’s return is his upcoming film with Danish Aslam, who previously directed him in Break Ke Baad (2010).
The film also stars Bhumi Pednekar and Gurfateh Pirzada and is expected to stream on Netflix. Its release date has not yet been announced.
In an earlier interview, Imran confirmed that filming had been completed and the project was in post-production, with the final release schedule dependent on the streaming platform.
“The shoot is complete, and it’s in post-production. We are looking at releasing it once the streaming platform decides on the date,” he said.
Actor Reflects on Reunion With Director
Imran also discussed how his personal experiences had shaped his reunion with Aslam, describing the film as a natural continuation of the creative partnership behind Break Ke Baad.
“The movie is just like what the team of Break Ke Baad would be doing 15 years later in life. It’s a natural progression,” he said.
He added that both he and Aslam had gained new life experiences since their earlier collaboration.
The film’s release timeline remains dependent on Netflix, while Imran’s reported legal challenge could determine how the notice affects his ability to remain in India and participate in future professional commitments.
For now, the actor’s planned return to a full-fledged leading role remains surrounded by uncertainty as the legal proceedings approach.
