LONDON, October 15, 2026: Grammy-winning British singer Lola Young has defended her management team against criticism over her recent health struggles, saying personal difficulties and self-sabotaging behaviour contributed to the severe burnout that forced her to step away from music.
In an interview with Vogue published on Wednesday, October 14, the 25-year-old singer reflected on her recovery and her months-long break following her collapse at the All Things Go Music Festival in September.
Young pushed back against online claims that her management team had overworked her, stressing that she remained in control of her career and schedule.
“I’m in control; my team work for me and that’s the truth,” Young said, addressing criticism directed at the people working with her.
She acknowledged that she had continued working while dealing with personal challenges and engaging in behaviour that made her situation more difficult.
“A lot of things were going on for me personally,” she said. “I was working but I also was self-sabotaging and that is not a good combination.”
Singer Reveals Struggle With Addiction
Young, best known for her hit song Messy, also disclosed that she had undergone rehabilitation twice for cocaine addiction before her onstage collapse.
The incident prompted her to reassess her priorities and take time away from the music industry to focus on her well-being.
After announcing her career break, Young entered a holistic treatment facility, where she spent two months concentrating on her recovery.
Her latest comments shed light on the personal challenges behind her absence, while also addressing the public scrutiny faced by her management team following the festival incident.
Second Album Signals a New Chapter
Young is now working on her second album, which she described as more “joyous and reflective” than her debut record.
She said the upcoming project reflects a change in how she views herself and the world around her, suggesting a more positive outlook as she returns to music.
“It’s a change in how I feel about myself. It’s a change in how I feel about my world,” she said, adding that she now feels “so good” and “really happy.”
The new album marks a fresh stage in Young’s career after a period shaped by addiction, burnout and recovery.
Her decision to speak openly about her experience also offers a more personal account of the circumstances surrounding her break, as she focuses on her health and prepares to resume her musical journey.
