Raisa Adil Karachi Editors Club Welcomes Appointment as Principal Information Officer

Raisa Adil received a warm welcome from the Karachi Editors Club (KEC) after the Government of Pakistan appointed her as the Principal Information Officer (PIO) at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

During a special meeting, KEC members unanimously congratulated Raisa Adil on her appointment. President Mubasher Mir chaired the sessionThey also commended Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar for what they described as a merit-based decision.

The committee said the appointment reflects the government’s commitment to stronger communication with the media. Members also praised Raisa Adil’s professional experience.

KEC members expressed confidence that Raisa Adil’s professional experience and administrative expertise will strengthen relations between the government and the media fraternity.

KEC President Mubasher Mir said the office of the Principal Information Officer serves as the government’s primary link with the media.

He said Raisa Adil can promote transparency. He also urged her to ensure timely official information and stronger engagement with journalists.

Meanwhile, KEC Secretary General Manzar Naqvi highlighted the challenges facing Pakistan’s media industry.

He said newspapers, television channels and digital media organisations face declining revenues. Rising costs and economic uncertainty have made the situation worse.

As a result, many journalists and media professionals have lost their jobs, while thousands more continue to face uncertainty about their future.

Naqvi urged the new PIO to adopt an open-door policy. He also called for regular consultations with representative media bodies.He added that such engagement could help address the concerns of journalists and media organisations.

The Executive Committee called for timely government advertisements. It also urged prompt payment of outstanding dues and a transparent advertising policy for national, regional and local media.

Furthermore, the committee urged the ministry to create a support framework for journalists who lost their jobs. It said the media industry needs urgent assistance.

Members proposed digital skills training, employment assistance, welfare initiatives and professional capacity building.

The committee said financially stable media organisations strengthen democracy. They also protect press freedom and support credible journalism.

KEC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Press Information Department to promote responsible journalism, institutional cooperation and constructive engagement in the national interest.
