Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Pakistan’s Strong Support for UN Multilateralism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong and enduring support for multilateralism and the role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Ambassador Olara Otunnu, a candidate for the position of UN Secretary-General, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House.

Otunnu was accompanied by Ruhakana Rugunda, Special Envoy of the President of Uganda and former prime minister of Uganda.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch also attended the meeting.

Pakistan Reiterates Commitment to UN Charter

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

He stressed the importance of respecting international law and international treaties, describing them as essential to maintaining a rules-based international order.

Pakistan-Malaysia Friendship Celebrated Through Flavours at Karachi Event

The prime minister also expressed hope that the next UN Secretary-General would continue to address the organisation’s three core pillars — peace and security, development, and human rights — in a balanced and interconnected manner.

Otunnu Appreciates Pakistan’s Global Role

Ambassador Olara Otunnu thanked Pakistan for its longstanding contributions to multilateralism and its support for the three pillars of the United Nations.

He also appreciated Pakistan’s role in international efforts aimed at promoting peace and security.

The meeting comes as the selection process for the next UN Secretary-General gains attention among member states, with discussions focused on the future direction and priorities of the world body.
