Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said the recently signed Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defence cooperation agreement symbolizes the historic brotherhood and mutual trust between the two nations, adding that their partnership will help both countries secure a stronger position on the global stage.

He made these remarks while addressing a luncheon at the Prime Minister’s House in honour of the visiting Saudi delegation, led by Prince Mansour bin Mohammad bin Saad Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi-Pakistan Joint Business Council. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, senior officials, and leading business figures.

Welcoming the delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz said it was a pleasure to reunite with Prince Mansour and described Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as “one family.” Recalling his first visit to the Kingdom in the 1960s, he praised its remarkable transformation and lauded the hospitality extended during his recent visit to Riyadh.

“The Saudi leadership and people have always stood by Pakistan through every trial and difficulty,” he said. “Every Muslim stands ready to protect the sanctity of the holy sites of Makkah and Madinah.”

He said the defence cooperation pact formalizes a longstanding relationship built on faith and fraternity.

“We are true brothers, and a brother always stands by his brother. We will always remain protectors of the holy cities,” the prime minister declared.

Highlighting opportunities in trade, investment, research, and innovation, Shehbaz Sharif said both nations are poised to transform their shared economic vision into reality.

“This is a time of golden opportunities. Together, we can translate our business vision into tangible outcomes,” he said.

He also praised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visionary leadership, saying it has reshaped Saudi Arabia’s economy and society.

“With cooperation and unity, we can establish a firm place in the global community,” he added.

Prince Mansour said the Saudi business community is eager to invest in Pakistan, noting that he had briefed senior Saudi ministers on potential joint ventures.

“We share Pakistan’s priorities and are committed to realizing mutually beneficial goals,” he said.

Earlier, the prime minister also received Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, Chairman of the Saudi Shura Council, and his delegation. The meeting, attended by Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, and Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, focused on strengthening bilateral and parliamentary cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz commended Saudi Arabia’s rapid development under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, particularly its progress in economic diversification, social reforms, and women’s empowerment. He conveyed his best wishes for King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, praying for his health and well-being.

Dr. Abdullah expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s hospitality and described the defence agreement as a “milestone” reflecting the two nations’ enduring fraternity. Both sides agreed to expand parliamentary exchanges and institutional linkages to deepen bilateral ties.
