Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to use all available resources to provide relief to people affected by heavy rains and ensure close coordination with provincial departments and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs).
The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, who called on him to brief him on the country’s preparedness for the ongoing monsoon season.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed the relevant departments to improve coordination and take measures to ensure the smooth movement of traffic on link roads and bridges. He also stressed the importance of ensuring timely delivery of relief goods to rain-affected communities.
During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the expected pattern of the ongoing monsoon season and preparations to deal with heavy rainfall and possible flood situations. He highlighted the need for cooperation among provinces and relevant institutions to strengthen the national response.

Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik said relevant departments had already taken proactive measures, in line with the prime minister’s directives, to monitor the monsoon season more effectively.
He assured the prime minister that departments concerned across the country were fully prepared to carry out rescue and relief operations in response to emergency weather conditions.
The prime minister’s directives come as authorities continue to strengthen preparedness for potential weather-related emergencies, with coordination between federal and provincial institutions remaining critical to protecting communities and maintaining essential transport and relief operations.
