Actor Noah Wyle, the Emmy-winning star of HBO’s medical drama The Pitt, has been named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for this year.
The 55-year-old actor said the announcement initially sounded like a prank, admitting he had never imagined receiving the recognition.
“Not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me,” Wyle told People magazine.

Wyle responded to the news with humour, joking that the title might transform his life.
“I hope this changes everything. I hope it’s just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out,” he said with a laugh.
He quickly added that he did not expect everything to change, but anticipated plenty of jokes from those closest to him.

Wyle has earned widespread recognition for his portrayal of Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in The Pitt, a medical drama that follows the demanding lives of healthcare professionals in a Pittsburgh trauma centre.
His performance has earned him two Emmy Awards for best actor in a drama series.
From ER to The Pitt
Before starring in The Pitt, Wyle became widely known for playing Dr John Carter in the long-running medical drama ER, which debuted in 1994.
His former ER co-star George Clooney has also received People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” title twice.
Other actors who have received the annual honour include Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba, John Krasinski and Paul Rudd.
Wyle’s selection adds another milestone to a career spanning decades in television, with his recent success in The Pitt bringing renewed attention to his work.
