Karachi: Muhammad Abbas and Hareem Anwar emerged as the new champions of the Karachi Table Tennis Championship, showcasing outstanding performances in the finals.
In the men’s singles final, Muhammad Abbas defeated Arham Bin Farukh convincingly by 3–1 sets. Abbas maintained control throughout the match, winning with scores of 11–7, 11–9, 7–11, and 11–4.
In the women’s singles final, Hareem Anwar secured the title after defeating Sarah Danish 3–1. Hareem dominated the first two sets 11–3 and 11–9, briefly lost the third set 7–11, but bounced back strongly to win the fourth set 11–1.
In the men’s doubles final, Aahil Tharani and Muhammad Saim triumphed over Arham Bin Farukh and Hussain Virani in a thrilling five-set match. The winning pair sealed victory with scores of 6–11, 11–3, 11–5, 9–11, and 11–6.
The mixed doubles title was claimed by Hareem Anwar and Salman Raza, who defeated Fatima and Muhammad Abbas 3–1, with scores of 6–11, 11–7, 11–9, and 11–9.
In team events, Islamia Club dominated both categories. In the women’s team final, Islamia Club edged past Sindh Sports Board Club 3–2.In the men’s team final, they defeated Ali Shan Club by the same margin, 3–2, in a closely contested encounter.
The championship was organized by Ali Shan Table Tennis Club at the Sindh Sports Board Complex, Nazimabad.The closing ceremony featured Additional Collector Pakistan Customs, Ali Raza Sipra, as the chief guest, who distributed trophies, shields, medals, and cash prizes totaling over PKR 300,000 among the winners.
Prize distribution included:
PKR 20,000 each for men’s and women’s singles gold medalists
PKR 15,000 for runners-up and PKR 5,000 for bronze medalists
PKR 15,000 for Under-19 gold medalists, with scaled rewards for silver and bronze winners
Cash prizes for doubles, mixed doubles, and veterans categories
A special Lifetime Achievement Award along with PKR 100,000 was presented to Nazo Shakoor in recognition of her contributions to table tennis. The ceremony was attended by officials including Mohsin Raza (Secretary, Sindh Table Tennis Association), Fareed Alam (President, Karachi Table Tennis Association), and other distinguished guests.
