Visa Expands Fraud Prevention

Visa said the deal will strengthen its cyber, fraud, risk and security services.

The company aims to help banks and financial institutions detect and prevent increasingly sophisticated digital threats before fraudulent transactions take place.

Andrew Torre, President of Value-Added Services at Visa, said account takeovers and scams cost the global economy more than $1 trillion each year. He added that artificial intelligence has enabled fraudsters to launch attacks on a much larger scale.

According to Torre, BioCatch will help financial institutions stop fraudulent activity before payments are processed.

BioCatch Uses Behavioural Intelligence

Founded in 2011, BioCatch detects fraud in real time by analysing behavioural signals.

Its technology studies keystrokes, touch gestures and device interactions to distinguish legitimate users from fraudsters.

The company serves more than 350 banking clients across 21 countries. It also protects approximately 1.8 billion devices and 760 million users worldwide.

Payment Firms Increase Cybersecurity Investments

Major payment companies continue to expand their cybersecurity capabilities through acquisitions.

Mastercard completed its $2.65 billion acquisition of threat intelligence firm Recorded Future in 2024.

Visa also strengthened its security portfolio by acquiring payment protection company Featurespace during the same year.

Deal Expected to Close in 2027

Visa said it has invested more than $13 billion in technology and infrastructure over the past five years to combat financial fraud.

The company expects to complete the BioCatch acquisition by the end of its fiscal second quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
