SOUTH KOREA, October 12, 2026: BLACKPINK star Lisa is drawing renewed attention as her documentary, Always Lalisa, arrives in cinemas and IMAX theaters worldwide, offering fans a closer look at her journey to international stardom.
Directed by Sue Kim, the 97-minute documentary follows Lisa’s landmark year as a solo artist, exploring her career ambitions, experiences with online criticism and transition into acting, including her debut in The White Lotus.
The film also examines Lisa’s pursuit of greater independence after years in the highly structured K-pop industry. It highlights the launch of her own company, LLOUD, as she expands her work beyond music.
A Personal Look Behind the Spotlight
Always Lalisa premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11 before its reported worldwide theatrical release on October 12.
Alongside concert and career moments, the documentary features previously unseen childhood footage and personal scenes involving Lisa and her mother. These sequences offer viewers insight into the family relationships and experiences that helped shape the Thai-born performer.
The film’s release has generated excitement among fans eager to see a more personal account of Lisa’s life beyond the stage.
Lisa Reflects on Past Controversy
The documentary also revisits criticism surrounding leaked trainee-era videos in which BLACKPINK members were seen using racial slurs while covering American rap songs. The controversy resurfaced in 2025, around the time Lisa was preparing for her Coachella performance.
Lisa reflects on the incident in the film, saying she was around 15 or 16 at the time and did not fully understand the word’s offensive history. She acknowledges the mistake and discusses how her perspective has changed since then.
Director Sue Kim reportedly expected Lisa to avoid the sensitive subject. However, the singer chose to address it directly rather than rely solely on a prepared public-relations response.
From K-Pop Star to Independent Artist
Lisa’s move from BLACKPINK member to solo performer and entrepreneur forms a central part of the documentary. Through her independent company, LLOUD, she has pursued projects that extend her artistic work into new areas.
Her acting debut in The White Lotus also features in the film’s account of her expanding career.
For viewers unable to attend the theatrical screenings, a future release on YouTube Premium has reportedly been planned, although its availability and timing should be confirmed through official announcements.
By combining music, acting, entrepreneurship and family memories, Always Lalisa offers fans a personal portrait of the performer behind the global phenomenon.
