Quetta: The Government of Japan has granted USD 36,109 to the Jam-e-Shafa Organization for the procurement of medical equipment under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). This grant will equip the Jam-e-Shafa Clinic in Quetta, ultimately improving healthcare services in the region.

The contract for this grant was officially signed on October 4, 2024, between Consul General of Japan, Mr. Hattori Masaru, and President of Jam-e-Shafa Organization, Dr. Mir Waiz.

Medical Equipment to Enhance Healthcare Services

The Jam-e-Shafa Organization will use the grant to purchase essential medical equipment such as an ultrasound machine, vital signs monitor, gynecological electric bed, operation light, cardiotocography (CTG), oxygen concentrator, sterilizer, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and storage battery. Therefore, these additions will significantly enhance the quality of medical care, especially for maternal and child health services in Quetta.

Since its establishment in 1992, the Jam-e-Shafa Organization has consistently provided free and high-quality healthcare services across Balochistan, with a special focus on underprivileged communities in Quetta.

Strengthening Pakistan-Japan Relations

During the signing ceremony, Consul General Mr. Hattori Masaru praised Jam-e-Shafa’s efforts, emphasizing its dedication to improving healthcare in Pakistan. He expressed hope that this grant, along with future ones, would continue to support Pakistan’s health sector for many years to come. Moreover, Mr. Hattori highlighted the ongoing collaboration between both nations to address crucial healthcare needs.

Similarly, Dr. Mir Waiz, President of Jam-e-Shafa, thanked the people of Japan for their continuous support, acknowledging the profound impact it has had on Pakistan’s most vulnerable populations.

Japan’s Grassroots Support in Pakistan

Since 1989, Japan has funded more than 400 projects in Pakistan through the GGP program. Notably, this grant represents the 34th project implemented by the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi since 2009. As a result, the GGP continues to provide direct support to local NGOs, strengthening ties between Japan and Pakistan while also enhancing human security at the grassroots level.
