Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian Arrives in Pakistan for Two-Day Official Visit

The visit is expected to enhance bilateral

cooperation and strengthen brotherly relations

between the two neighbouring countries

Islamabad: President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for a two-day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral ties between Iran and Pakistan.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar warmly welcomed the Iranian president and his high-level delegation at Nur Khan Airbase.

The Iranian delegation includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, senior cabinet members, and top officials.

According to the Foreign Office, this is President Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Pakistan since assuming office. The visit is expected to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen brotherly relations between the two neighbouring countries.

During his stay, Dr Pezeshkian will hold separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will also participate in delegation-level talks alongside members of the Pakistani cabinet.

A 21-gun salute was presented in honour of the visiting dignitary, while two children in traditional attire greeted him with bouquets upon arrival.

Tribute at Iqbal’s Mausoleum in Lahore

Earlier in the day, President Pezeshkian visited Lahore to pay tribute at the mausoleum of the Poet of the East, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

He was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and Information Minister Azma Zahid Bokhari.

During the solemn ceremony, the Iranian president laid a floral wreath at the tomb and offered Fateha, led by Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and Khateeb of Badshahi Masjid, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

President Pezeshkian also signed the visitors’ book, lauding Allama Iqbal’s lasting contributions to Islamic thought and the Pakistan Movement.

Strict security measures were enforced to ensure the safety of the president and his delegation throughout their visit to Lahore.
