DUBLIN, October 15, 2026: Google DeepMind and Google Cloud have launched an initiative to help up to 200 European researchers access advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models and $3 million in cloud computing credits.
Announced at an AI summit in Dublin, the programme aims to address Europe’s shortage of computing resources and accelerate scientific research under the European Commission’s Resource for AI Science in Europe (RAISE) framework.
The initiative will provide researchers with specialised AI tools designed to support scientific work across several fields, including biology, genetics, climate science and computational research.
Advanced AI Tools for Scientific Research
Participating researchers will gain access to Google’s AI tools, including AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve and AlphaEarth Foundations.
These technologies can help scientists investigate molecular structures, analyse genetic information, forecast extreme weather events and address complex scientific problems.
By combining advanced AI models with cloud computing infrastructure, the initiative aims to help research teams process data more efficiently and explore questions that may otherwise require substantial computing resources.
European Commission to Manage Selection
Google DeepMind and Google Cloud will provide the technology and computing infrastructure for the programme.
The European Commission will independently manage the selection of participating researchers, separating the allocation process from the companies supplying the resources.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand access to AI capabilities for European scientific institutions and strengthen the use of artificial intelligence in research.
Accelerating Scientific Discovery
Access to advanced computing remains an important consideration for research teams working with large datasets, complex simulations and demanding AI models.
The programme aims to reduce these barriers by providing selected researchers with tools and computing credits that can support their projects.
Google DeepMind and Google Cloud said the initiative is intended to help European research teams accelerate discoveries and develop solutions to major global challenges.
Its impact will depend on how researchers use the resources and whether the additional computing capacity leads to measurable advances across the participating scientific fields.
