A World Peace Day marathon was held at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi to promote peace, love and harmony through sports, bringing together students from government schools across the city.
The event was organised under the auspices of Pakistan’s Peace Ambassador Aurangzeb Sultan and the Shamim Mumtaz Sports Academy, in collaboration with Karachi East Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Abbasi and Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Nawaz Ghamro.

President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh and Sindh Assembly MPA Nisar Ahmed Khuhro attended the marathon as the chief guest.
A large number of students from government schools across Karachi participated in the race, with organisers highlighting the role of sports in bringing communities together and promoting a message of peace.
Speaking about the purpose of the event, the organisers said the marathon was intended to convey a message to the world that peace and love remain a priority for the people of Sindh and Pakistan. They said the country’s message of peace could be shared internationally through sporting activities and youth participation.
The event at Mazar-e-Quaid also provided students with an opportunity to participate in a healthy sporting activity while highlighting the importance of cooperation, discipline and peaceful coexistence.
Prizes were distributed among the participating athletes at the conclusion of the marathon. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Karachi East Mohammad Nawaz Ghamro, Sport Officer Education Department Karachi East Nasir Khan, former MPA Pervez Alam, Shamim Mumtaz, Najaf Mazari, Abdul Wahab, Sadia Jafri and Anisa Baghyo participated in the prize-distribution ceremony.
Organisers said such sporting events can provide young people with a platform to promote positive social values and strengthen the message of peace.
The marathon concluded with participants and organisers reiterating their commitment to using sports as a means of encouraging unity, harmony and peaceful engagement among communities.
