14 Pakistani runners take part in Boston Marathon 2026

Fourteen runners representing Pakistan have participated in the 130th edition of the Boston Marathon 2026.

Among them, Amjad Ali, a police constable from Karachi, stood out as a symbol of determination and grassroots success. He qualified for the race with a time of 2:40 at the Karachi Marathon and aimed to improve his personal best on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

He was also the fastest Pakistani runner at the 2024 Istanbul Marathon and prepared largely on the streets of Karachi with support from fellow runners and colleagues.

Karachi-based maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Jehanzeb Mughal also took part, completing his Six Star journey across the World Marathon Majors.

His transformation into a marathon runner came after overcoming significant health and fitness challenges, including being overweight and dealing with a knee problem, before completing all six major marathons within three years.

Beyond personal achievement, his participation is linked to a broader purpose of supporting and sustaining a free Oral Cancer Surgery Unit at PEBS Hospital in Karachi, where over 450 surgeries have been performed free of cost since March 2023.

Out of the 14 Pakistani runners, four are Six Star finishers, while four completed their Six Star journey in Boston. Three are Seven Star finishers, and two female runners were also part of the contingent.

Participants entered through qualifying times, charity programs, or tour allocations, highlighting multiple pathways to one of the world’s most exclusive marathon start lines.

A Platinum Label event, it is part of the World Marathon Majors calendar, following the Tokyo Marathon, and remains the only major marathon that requires strict qualifying standards for entry.

The 2026 edition featured more than 30,000 participants from 137 countries, including over 24,000 runners who secured entry through qualifying times. Known for its rolling terrain, the route includes the Newton Hills and the iconic Heartbreak Hill, which challenge runners late in the race.
