Karachi: The Consulate of Turkiye in Karachi celebrated the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye with a ceremony held on Tuesday night. Notable guests included Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, MPA Faryal Talpur, and Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Syed Awais Qadir Shah.
Welcoming the guests, Turkiye’s Consul General in Karachi, Cemal Sangu, emphasized the strong bonds between Turkiye and Pakistan. He praised the countries’ shared values of peace, cooperation, and support, especially during times of need. “Our brotherhood runs deeper than oceans and stands taller than K-2,” he noted.
Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Turkiye and Pakistan have bolstered ties, particularly in defense and education. Sangu highlighted 28 Pak-Turk Maarif Schools in Pakistan, which currently serve over 30,000 students. This year, Turkiye awarded scholarships to 250 Pakistani students, adding to the 5,000 Pakistani students already studying in Turkish universities.
The Consul General commended the humanitarian projects led by TIKA, Turkiye’s aid agency, and pointed to a rising trade relationship, with bilateral trade reaching $1.3 billion last year. Both nations aim to increase trade to $5 billion, while Turkish investment in Pakistan now stands at $3.5 billion, with potential to double. Sangu also announced Turkiye’s participation in the upcoming IDEAS Defense Exhibition in Karachi, where Turkish defense companies will showcase their advancements.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, provincial ministers, consuls general from Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, and other high-ranking military officials.
