Spain vs France ended in a dominant 2-0 victory for Spain as the European champions defeated tournament favourites France to secure a place in the FIFA World Cup final on Tuesday.

Mikel Oyarzabal converted a first-half penalty before Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s lead in the 58th minute at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. As a result, Spain advanced to Sunday’s final, where they will face either Argentina or England.

World Cup winners in 2010, Spain produced a disciplined display to neutralise France’s star-studded attack led by Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise.

France suffered another setback in the 31st minute when defender William Saliba left the pitch with an injury. However, Didier Deschamps’ side failed to recover despite creating a few chances before half-time.

Spain maintained control after the break. Then, Porro exchanged passes with Olmo before finishing clinically past Mike Maignan to make it 2-0.

Lamine Yamal thought he had added a third goal moments later. However, the effort was ruled out for offside.

France introduced several substitutes in an attempt to revive the contest. Nevertheless, Spain’s organised defence kept the French attack quiet until the final whistle.

The victory sends Spain into their second World Cup final after lifting the trophy in 2010. Meanwhile, France’s bid for a third World Cup title came to an end.
