Raphinha and Fermin Lopez celebrate Barcelona’s victory over Athletic Bilbao.
Barcelona continued their strong start to the LaLiga season with a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou on Thursday.
Raphinha opened the scoring in the 37th minute. Pedri split the Athletic defence with a clever through ball, allowing the Brazilian to round goalkeeper Unai Simon and score into an empty net.
Barcelona controlled possession for much of the match and created several chances. However, Simon produced a series of impressive saves to keep Athletic in the game.
Lamine Yamal came close in the 18th minute, but Simon denied him with a fine one-handed stop. Six minutes later, Raphinha headed against the post.
Pedri then found the net, although the referee ruled out his effort for offside.

Barcelona continued to dominate after the break. Yamal struck the crossbar with a long-range effort in the 53rd minute.
New signing Rodri entered the match in the 62nd minute. The former Manchester City midfielder made his Barcelona debut after joining the Catalan club.
Athletic nearly equalised in the 75th minute. Oihan Sancet struck the post, giving Barcelona a warning as the visitors searched for a way back into the match.
Barcelona finally secured the points eight minutes later.
Laporte failed to clear a low cross from Karim Adeyemi. Fermin Lopez collected the loose ball inside the box and fired past Simon to make it 2-0.
Manager Hansi Flick made three changes from the team that defeated Elche 5-0 in their opening match.
Anthony Gordon made his full debut, while Pau Cubarsi and Pedri also returned to the starting lineup. Rodri started on the bench before making his first appearance.
The victory gives Barcelona six points from their opening two matches. They remain level with Real Madrid, Real Betis and Sevilla at the top of the LaLiga table.
