KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has launched a province-wide special polio booster vaccination campaign aimed at further strengthening immunity among children and advancing efforts to eliminate polio from the region.
The campaign was formally inaugurated in Karachi by Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, who administered polio booster drops to children during the central launching ceremony.
The event was attended by Secretary Health Tahir Hussain Sanghi, Syed Shariyar Mehmood, and other senior health officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho said that making Sindh polio-free remains one of the top priorities of the provincial government. She emphasized that all available resources are being utilized to ensure the success of ongoing eradication efforts.
She urged parents to ensure that children between the ages of 4 to 10 years receive the compulsory polio booster dose, stressing that community participation is essential in the fight against the disease.
“Parental cooperation is extremely important in the eradication of polio,” she said, adding that awareness and collective responsibility are key to protecting future generations.
According to the health minister, the campaign will cover all districts of Sindh, including Karachi’s 89 Union Councils, where millions of children will be administered booster doses.
She added that vaccination teams will conduct door-to-door visits as well as operate fixed vaccination centers to ensure maximum coverage.
Dr. Pechuho further stated that special security arrangements have been put in place for polio teams operating in sensitive areas to ensure safe and uninterrupted campaign activities.
She called upon religious scholars, teachers, parents, and civil society to play a joint and active role in eradicating polio from society, describing it as a collective national responsibility.
Health officials said the booster campaign is part of broader efforts to enhance immunity levels among children and strengthen ongoing polio eradication initiatives across the province.
