Karachi: Following directives from Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, authorities have taken action over allegations related to the arrest and reported mistreatment of human rights activist Sheema Kermani and other women workers.
According to official sources, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saddar Nasir Afridi, SHO Women Police Station Hina Mughal, and SHO Artillery Maidan Police Station Nadeem Hyder have been suspended with immediate effect.
The Home Minister has also ordered a formal inquiry into the incident to determine responsibility and ensure accountability.
Speaking on the matter, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar stated that the provincial government maintains a zero-tolerance policy against misuse of authority. He emphasized that the rights and dignity of women must be protected under all circumstances.
He further assured that the findings of the inquiry would be transparent and that strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty of misconduct or abuse of power.
The incident has drawn attention from human rights circles, prompting calls for a fair and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrests and alleged mistreatment.
