Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah Issues Heatwave Advisory as PMD Warns of Rising Temperatures

Karachi — Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Saturday urged citizens to take precautionary measures as Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned that heatwave conditions would continue across central and upper parts of Sindh until Sunday.

In its latest advisory, the PMD forecast hot to very hot and dry weather across most districts of the province, with temperatures in several areas expected to remain significantly above seasonal averages.

According to the department, daytime temperatures are likely to stay 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal in districts including Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sanghar, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur.

The Met Office also warned of dust storms and gusty winds in Jacobabad, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and Ghotki districts during Saturday and Sunday.

Officials advised the public to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during daytime hours and to remain hydrated amid the extreme weather conditions. Farmers were also advised to take weather precautions while working outdoors and to ensure proper care for livestock.

The PMD cautioned that strong winds and dust storms could damage vulnerable infrastructure, including electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels.

For Karachi, the department forecast maximum temperatures between 38°C and 40°C on Sunday, rising further to 39°C to 41°C on Monday.

In response to the alert, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed district administrations in affected regions to establish heatwave relief camps and ensure hospitals are fully prepared to handle heatstroke-related emergencies.

He urged citizens to cover their heads, drink plenty of water, stay in shaded areas, and avoid working under direct sunlight during peak daytime hours.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as Sindh experiences one of the season’s most intense heat spells.
