Islamabad — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed relevant authorities to formulate a comprehensive strategy aimed at stabilising electricity tariffs and improving the country’s energy sector performance.

Chairing a high-level meeting on energy sector reforms, the prime minister emphasized the need to provide relief to both domestic and industrial consumers through sustainable power pricing measures and structural improvements in the electricity system.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz instructed officials to take concrete steps to strengthen the national power transmission network and reduce line losses, which continue to place financial pressure on the energy sector.

He also stressed the importance of incorporating advanced technology into the power sector and accelerating renewable energy projects to help address Pakistan’s ongoing energy challenges and reduce reliance on costly fuel imports.

The premier further directed authorities to enhance digital payment systems and consumer services to make electricity bill payments more convenient and efficient for the public.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to tackling power theft, the prime minister ordered the continuation of strict enforcement measures against illegal electricity usage, describing uninterrupted energy supply as essential for industrial growth and economic stability.

PM Shehbaz stated that protecting domestic consumers and supporting industrial productivity remain among the government’s top priorities, adding that future energy reforms would be implemented while balancing the interests of the public, businesses, and the national economy.

Officials participating in the meeting also presented recommendations concerning electricity consumption patterns and tariff-related measures for residential and industrial sectors.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior government officials.
