Saudi Arabia’s air defence systems intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched towards the country’s Eastern Province early Sunday, according to the Saudi-led coalition.
Coalition spokesperson Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki said Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group had targeted the province with the missile.
He confirmed that air defence systems intercepted and destroyed the projectile before it could reach its intended target.
Emergency Alerts Activated in Eastern Province
Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense Directorate activated emergency warning systems in Dammam, Al-Ahsa and Abqaiq, alerting residents to the potential threat.
Authorities later confirmed that the danger had passed and lifted the emergency warnings.
