KARACHI, July 18, 2026: Raisa Adil has been welcomed by the Karachi Editors Club (KEC) following her appointment as Principal Information Officer (PIO), with the organisation expressing hope that her leadership will strengthen cooperation between the government and the media.

During a special meeting chaired by KEC President Mubasher Mir, the Executive Committee unanimously welcomed the federal government’s decision to appoint Raisa Adil as Principal Information Officer in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The committee also congratulated Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, describing the appointment as a merit-based decision that places an experienced and professional officer at the head of the government’s principal media liaison institution.

KEC members said they were confident that Raisa Adil’s administrative experience and understanding of media affairs would help improve communication between the government and Pakistan’s media organisations.

Speaking at the meeting, Mubasher Mir said the office of the Principal Information Officer serves as the key institutional link between the government and the media. He expressed hope that the Press Information Department would promote greater transparency, ensure the timely dissemination of official information, and strengthen engagement with journalists and media organisations.

KEC Secretary General Manzar Naqvi highlighted the financial challenges confronting Pakistan’s media industry. He said newspapers, television channels, and digital media organisations continue to face declining revenues, rising operational costs, and economic uncertainty, resulting in job losses and growing concerns about journalists’ professional futures.

The committee urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to work with journalists’ representative bodies, editors, and media owners to develop a comprehensive framework for journalists affected by the ongoing crisis. It recommended measures including professional training, digital skills development, employment support, welfare initiatives, and institutional assistance.

KEC also called for the timely release of government advertisements, prompt clearance of outstanding advertising payments, and the introduction of a transparent and equitable government advertising policy to support national, regional, and local media organisations.

The Executive Committee said restoring journalists’ confidence in job security, professional independence, and career sustainability remains essential for strengthening democratic institutions, protecting freedom of expression, and ensuring access to credible journalism.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Press Information Department to promote responsible journalism, institutional cooperation, media freedom, and constructive engagement.
