Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday issued a stern warning to India, stating that any attempt to block Pakistan’s water in violation of the Indus Waters Treaty would provoke a “lesson you will never forget.”
Speaking at an International Youth Day event, the prime minister emphasized that water is Pakistan’s lifeline and that the country would never compromise on its internationally recognized rights. He highlighted May 10 as a historic day when Pakistan’s armed forces “defeated India” and the Pakistan Air Force downed six Indian fighter jets.
Shehbaz Sharif announced that 100,000 laptops would be distributed interest-free to students on merit, reaffirming his government’s commitment to transparency. He said Pakistan’s future rests in the hands of youth, and his administration is determined to empower them through education, technology, and skill development.
The prime minister also congratulated the nation ahead of Independence Day, acknowledging the vital contributions of minorities to Pakistan’s creation and progress. Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf underscored government measures to protect minorities, including a 5% job quota under the policy for interfaith harmony. Minister of State Khel Das Kohistani echoed the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in safeguarding equal rights for all citizens.
Chairman PM Youth Program Rana Mashhood Khan praised Shehbaz Sharif’s earlier initiatives, including the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, which has now evolved into the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund, benefiting students nationwide.
