ASEAN Day Ishaq Dar Reaffirms Pakistan’s Support for Regional Cooperation

Pakistan strongly supports ASEAN efforts to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar said on Saturday.

In a message marking the 59th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Dar said Pakistan viewed inclusive dialogue, mutual trust and international cooperation as the most effective ways to address shared challenges.

He also reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to working closely with ASEAN as the bloc advances regional integration and community-building.

Pakistan Reaffirms ASEAN Partnership

Dar conveyed greetings on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to ASEAN member states. He also congratulated ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn on his leadership and efforts to strengthen regional cooperation.

The foreign minister described ASEAN Day as a celebration of unity, solidarity and cooperation among Southeast Asian nations. Pakistan, he said, joined its ASEAN partners in marking the occasion and reaffirming its longstanding friendship with the region.

According to Dar, ASEAN provides an important example of regional integration and collective progress. The bloc has made significant advances in economic development, social cohesion and diplomatic engagement.

Focus on Trade and Regional Cooperation

Pakistan values ASEAN’s role in promoting peace, stability and prosperity across the Asia-Pacific region, Dar said.

He added that ASEAN Day also offered an opportunity to highlight the importance of regional cooperation. At the same time, it celebrates Southeast Asia’s cultural diversity and historical heritage.

Pakistan’s relations with ASEAN are based on mutual respect, non-interference and constructive engagement, according to Dar.

Islamabad has also participated actively in ASEAN-led dialogue mechanisms. Going forward, Pakistan wants to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Pakistan’s Role in ASEAN-Led Forums

Pakistan’s engagement with ASEAN has also expanded through its participation in the ASEAN Regional Forum.

Dar said Pakistan contributes to collective efforts through the forum to strengthen regional peace, security and cooperation.

Amid growing global challenges and uncertainty, he praised ASEAN’s unity and continued commitment to dialogue and mutual understanding.

He stressed that peaceful cooperation remains essential for addressing shared challenges and building a more stable and prosperous region.
