Opposition Alliance Authorises Leadership for Talks with Government as PTI Reaffirms ‘No Minus-Imran’ Stance

ISLAMABAD: A grand opposition alliance on Thursday formally empowered its parliamentary leadership to negotiate with the government.

The decision followed an eight-hour meeting of opposition parties in Islamabad. The session took place under National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

Moreover, over 70 PTI lawmakers from the National Assembly and Senate attended the meeting.

Negotiation Mandate Declared Binding

The alliance passed a resolution giving full authority to Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.

Consequently, both leaders will conduct negotiations on behalf of the alliance.

Furthermore, the resolution stated that their decisions will remain binding for all parliamentary members.

PTI Reiterates Support for Imran Khan

During a press briefing, opposition leaders highlighted concern over Imran Khan’s detention.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the main agenda focused on Khan’s access and release.

In addition, he alleged restrictions on meetings with Khan for his family, lawyers, and party leaders.

Rejection of ‘Minus-Imran’ Formula

Gohar Khan clearly rejected any proposal to sideline Imran Khan.

He stated that PTI’s political presence in Parliament comes directly from Khan’s leadership.

Therefore, he warned that any attempt to remove him from politics would face strong resistance.

Concerns Over Governance and Political Climate

Meanwhile, Mahmood Khan Achakzai said the meeting also discussed inflation, instability, and law and order.

He stressed that the alliance seeks restoration of constitutional order through peaceful means.

Similarly, Raja Nasir Abbas called the country’s situation a “serious political and economic crisis.”

Call for Dialogue and Political Releases

Raja Nasir Abbas said dialogue is necessary for restoring constitutional supremacy.

He also demanded the release of political prisoners, including Imran Khan and party workers.

Furthermore, he criticised shrinking space for political dissent in the country.
