Asim Munir Pakistan Army Chief Arrives in Tehran for Talks on Regional Peace

Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, arrived in Tehran on an official visit to Iran, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, as Islamabad continues diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace and stability.

According to Iranian media, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni received Field Marshal Munir and Naqvi upon their arrival in the Iranian capital.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had earlier confirmed that the Pakistani officials were travelling to Iran as part of Islamabad’s diplomatic engagement aimed at supporting peace and stability in the region.

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir is expected to meet senior Iranian officials to discuss bilateral relations, regional security and efforts to reduce tensions. The talks are also expected to focus on diplomatic options for resolving ongoing conflicts and strengthening regional peace initiatives.

Pakistan pushes for dialogue and diplomacy

Pakistan has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving regional disputes. Islamabad has also reiterated its support for lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei had earlier confirmed that Field Marshal Munir would lead an official delegation to Tehran. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the visit seeks to strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Iran while supporting wider efforts to promote peace and security.

The visit comes as Pakistan continues to engage Iran and other regional and international stakeholders on diplomatic efforts. Islamabad has maintained that it is ready to use its diplomatic channels to facilitate dialogue and help address outstanding issues.

Focus on US-Iran tensions

The visit also comes amid stalled peace negotiations between the United States and Iran. Pakistan has previously hosted and participated in high-level diplomatic engagements involving the two sides while continuing to call for a negotiated settlement.

The Foreign Office has said Islamabad will continue using direct and indirect channels to encourage constructive dialogue and prevent further escalation.

Moreover, Munir’s visit marks his third trip to Iran this year, underscoring the importance Pakistan places on maintaining high-level communication with Tehran amid the wider regional crisis.
