Karachi Port: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has achieved the highest cargo handling volume in its 138-year history, setting a new operational record.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said KPT had surpassed its previous record by handling 54.685 million tonnes of cargo. He described the achievement as clear evidence of sustained growth in Pakistan’s maritime sector.
The minister said the government was continuing reforms to position Pakistan as a leading maritime and trade hub in the region. He added that work to modernise and expand the country’s ports had been accelerated.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said improving investment, logistics and port infrastructure remained among the government’s top priorities. He also praised the KPT chairman, officers and employees for their professionalism and contribution to the record-breaking performance.
KPT Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed said Karachi Port had significantly improved its operational efficiency, capacity and administrative performance. He added that further measures were under way to strengthen the port’s competitiveness and support future growth.
