Karachi Monsoon: Water Corporation on High Alert Ahead of Forecast Rainfall

July 13, 2026

Karachi Monsoon preparations have entered a high-alert phase after the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast monsoon rains in the city. Acting on the directives of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has activated emergency arrangements to ensure efficient drainage and minimise disruption for residents.

Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui instructed all zonal chief engineers, superintending engineers, executive engineers and field teams to remain in their designated areas throughout the expected rainfall. He directed officials to closely monitor drainage operations and respond immediately to any emerging issues.

The corporation has completed pre-monsoon preparations across the city, with special attention given to low-lying and flood-prone locations. Additional manpower, machinery and operational resources have been assigned to these areas to enable a swift response if water begins to accumulate.

KWSC has also placed its jetting and suction machines on high alert. Executive Engineer Workshop Shafqat Hussain will supervise the timely deployment, transportation and effective use of the machinery to keep drainage operations running without interruption.

Ahmed Ali Siddiqui said providing uninterrupted public services and reducing rain-related difficulties remain the corporation’s top priorities. He added that all field teams, technical staff and equipment would remain operational around the clock to ensure the drainage system functions effectively during the monsoon.

He also instructed officials to continuously monitor their respective areas, resolve public complaints without delay and take immediate action in the event of any emergency.

The Water Corporation urged residents not to remove manhole covers during rainfall. According to the corporation, the sewerage network and manholes are not designed to drain rainwater, and opening them could damage the drainage system, increase safety risks and endanger lives and property.

The corporation advised citizens to contact the relevant KWSC authorities in case of complaints or emergencies to ensure a timely response.
