Kanya Arts Council Karachi hosts spectacular Sri Lankan cultural dance show

Kanya delighted audiences at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi as the institution, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Consulate General, hosted the acclaimed Sri Lankan cultural dance show.

The event attracted diplomats, artists and cultural enthusiasts to Auditorium I. Guests included Arts Council President Mohammad Ahmed Shah, Sri Lanka’s Consul General Sanjeewa Pattiwila, senior diplomats and business leaders.

The ceremony began with the national anthems of Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Afterward, dignitaries participated in the traditional Sri Lankan Oil Lamp Lighting Ceremony, which symbolizes friendship, unity, prosperity and cultural harmony.

During his welcome address, Mohammad Ahmed Shah said Pakistan and Sri Lanka have enjoyed warm diplomatic and cultural relations for many years. He added that both countries continue to strengthen their partnership through cultural exchanges.

He also praised Sri Lanka as a leading tourist destination. Moreover, he expressed pleasure at welcoming the renowned Sri Lankan dance troupe to the Arts Council for the third time.

Meanwhile, Consul General Sanjeewa Pattiwila said the evening reflected the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He added that “Kanya” highlighted the colours, traditions and artistic spirit of Sri Lankan culture. He also thanked the Arts Council and supporting organisations for hosting the programme.

The cultural show featured performances by a dance ensemble led by celebrated Sri Lankan choreographer Chandana Wickramasinghe. The troupe presented Ukusa (Rhythm), Naga Raksha, Ragum Gee, Radhamanjali, Peacock (Fusion in Blue), Thelme, Hoiya Hoiya, Ridhma Rata, Abhisheka, Salina Lelina and Rathna Deepa Janmabhoomi.

Throughout the evening, the performers blended traditional Sri Lankan dance with contemporary artistic expression. As a result, the audience applauded the performances and celebrated the country’s rich cultural heritage.
