Jamshed Ansari Veteran Pakistani Actor Remembered on 21st Death Anniversary

Jamshed Ansari is being remembered by fans and admirers across Pakistan on his 21st death anniversary, with tributes highlighting his more than four decades of contributions to radio, television, film and theatre.

Born in Saharanpur, India, on December 31, 1942, Jamshed Ansari migrated to Pakistan with his family in 1948 at the age of six. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964 before beginning a career that would span more than 40 years.

Ansari built an impressive portfolio that included more than 200 television dramas, three films and numerous radio and stage productions. He earned widespread recognition for playing Safdar in the popular Pakistani radio programme “Hamid Mian Kay Haan”, which remained a favourite among listeners for more than four decades.

In 1964, Ansari travelled to London, where he lived for four years. During his time there, he completed television production courses, performed in stage shows and worked with the BBC.

He returned to Pakistan in 1968 and began his television acting career with the Lahore television play “Jharokay”, which aired that year. His first television play from Karachi was “Ghora Ghaas Khata Hai”, written by renowned writer Agha Nasir.

Ansari’s passion for performance extended beyond television. He appeared in numerous radio programmes and stage productions, establishing himself as a versatile performer across multiple forms of entertainment.

During his 41-year career, Ansari received 55 national and two international awards in recognition of his work. Among his notable honours were the Quaid-i-Azam Award and the Graduate Award.

Jamshed Ansari died on August 24, 2005, after suffering from a brain tumour. He was 62.

Twenty-one years after his death, fans continue to remember Ansari for his distinctive performances and lasting contribution to Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
