Aasha Singh Jaiswal Veteran Actress and Mimicry Artist Dies at 83

Aasha Singh Jaiswal, the veteran actress and mimicry artist known for her work in Hindi cinema, television and cultural programmes, has died in Mumbai at the age of 83.

Jaiswal died on August 22 at around 7:30pm, her son Akkash Bharadwaj confirmed. The family performed her last rites and cremated her at Mumbai’s Pawan Hans Crematorium on August 23.

Bharadwaj paid tribute to his mother in an Instagram post, remembering her dedication to her work and life. He said her philosophy encouraged people to view death not as something to mourn but as a journey towards divine bliss.

A pioneer in Indian mimicry

Jaiswal established herself as a prominent mimicry performer alongside her acting career. She became particularly known for recreating the voices of well-known personalities, including legendary actress Meena Kumari.

Her career also held particular significance for women in Indian entertainment. Jaiswal was regarded as one of the pioneering women in mimicry, a field that had traditionally been dominated by men.

She also appeared in several Hindi productions, including the 1993 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Baazigar. According to reports, she featured in BR Chopra’s acclaimed television series Mahabharat, portraying Kripi, the sister of Kripacharya.

Entrepreneur and social worker

Beyond the entertainment industry, Jaiswal pursued entrepreneurship and founded Aasha Events and Films, an organisation involved in cultural programmes and events.

She also remained connected with social welfare and community initiatives throughout her career.

Her work across acting, mimicry, cultural events and social causes marked a diverse career spanning several decades.
