Italian consul visits Karachi hospital, strengthens healthcare cooperation ties

Visit to Children Hospital Korangi highlights new ventilators donation and future collaboration in pediatric medical technology and training.

KARACHI: The Consulate General of Italy in Karachi visited the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) at Children Hospital Korangi, marking a step forward in healthcare cooperation between Pakistan and Italy.

The Italian Consul General Consulate General of Italy Karachi was received by hospital leadership and given a detailed tour of the facility, including key neonatal and critical care units.

During the visit, 22 new ventilators supplied by Italian medical technology company SIARE were formally inaugurated, significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity for emergency and intensive neonatal care.

Hospital officials said the newly installed equipment will improve life-saving treatment for newborns and critically ill children, strengthening the overall healthcare infrastructure at the facility.

The Consul appreciated the efforts of the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology and acknowledged the impact of upgraded medical technology on patient care delivery. He also expressed support for expanding collaboration between Pakistani healthcare institutions and Italian medical companies.

Discussions during the visit focused on potential partnerships in pediatric healthcare, including technology transfer, equipment procurement, and professional training programs. The Consul encouraged SICHN to engage with reputable Italian healthcare firms and assured facilitation in establishing direct institutional links.

Hospital leadership, including senior doctors, also expressed interest in visiting Italy to explore cooperation opportunities with medical equipment manufacturers and healthcare organizations.

The visit also highlighted the role of Italian healthcare companies such as Chiesi, which have contributed to global healthcare development initiatives.

Officials described the visit as an important milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector, particularly in neonatal care and medical innovation.
