Hampshire, Worcestershire Reach English One-Day Cup Final

Hammad Aziz

The semi-finals of the English One-Day Cup delivered high drama, individual brilliance, and showcased Pakistani talent on English soil. While Imam-ul-Haq’s valiant century couldn’t rescue Yorkshire, it was Khurram Shehzad’s fiery spell that propelled Worcestershire into the grand finale.

Imam Shines, But Hampshire Prevails
Imam-ul-Haq scripted a fluent 105 for Yorkshire against a relentless Hampshire bowling attack. Poised under pressure, his precise stroke play kept Yorkshire in the hunt during a rain-affected chase. However, a crucial run-out turned the tide.

Earlier, Hampshire posted 304/6, powered by Liam Dawson’s commanding 142 and Scott Currie’s supporting 61*. Yorkshire, chasing a revised DLS target of 254 in 41 overs, fell 18 runs short, finishing on 235/8. Dawson contributed with two wickets alongside Currie and Eddie Jack, sealing Hampshire’s spot in the final.

Khurram Shehzad Dazzles in Somerset Semi-Final
In the second semi-final, Worcestershire’s pacer Khurram Shehzad stole the show with a deadly spell of 4 for 36, helping dismantle Somerset by 131 runs (DLS). Somerset, chasing 273 in a shortened innings, were bowled out for 141 in 29.2 overs, with only captain James Rew (47) and Archie Vaughan (23) offering resistance.

Worcestershire had earlier posted 275/9, with contributions from Brett D’Oliveira (45), Henry Cullen (32), and both Ethan Brookes & Matthew Waite (24 each). Ethan Brookes supported Khurram with 3 wickets for just 16 runs, ensuring Somerset never recovered despite Ben Green’s 4 wickets.

Final Showdown Set
The final of the English One-Day Cup is now set: Hampshire vs Worcestershire on September 20. With one side boasting experience and batting depth and the other fueled by youthful fire and Pakistani pace, fans can expect an electrifying contest.

Imam-ul-Haq and Khurram Shehzad’s standout performances have not only made headlines in England but also strengthened their case for national selection ahead of the winter tours.
