Germany Marks 80th Anniversary of WWII Liberation with Memorial in Karachi

Karachi: The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Karachi held a solemn memorial service to mark the 80th anniversary of liberation from National Socialism and the end of World War II.

International Participation and Reflection

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from Allied nations, including the Consul General of France, the British Deputy High Commissioner, the Acting Consul General of the United States, and officials from the German Consulate.

The event honored the millions of lives lost during World War II and emphasized the importance of remembrance, reconciliation, and peace.

German Consul General’s Message

In his address, H.E. Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, Consul General of Germany in Karachi, underscored the need to protect democracy and human rights.

“Peace is not something to be taken for granted. It is fragile and must be secured every day—through dialogue, understanding, and unwavering respect for human dignity,” Dr. Lotz stated.

A Message That Resonates Today

Dr. Lotz stressed that the message of May 8—“Never again war, never again hatred”—is more relevant than ever, especially amid rising global conflicts and authoritarian trends.

Germany reaffirmed its commitment to upholding democracy, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence in Europe and beyond.
