Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement through professional training and welfare initiatives while addressing the 131st Passing-Out Parade at Shahid Hayat Police Training College (SHPTC) in Saeedabad on Saturday.

The ceremony marked the formal induction of 978 recruits from the Hyderabad Range into the Sindh Police.

Formal induction ceremony

Upon arrival, the chief minister was escorted by the Mounted Police and received by Inspector General Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho, Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan, Additional IGP Training Iqbal Dara, DIGP Training Faizullah Korejo, and other senior officers.

The event featured a march-past, salute and oath-taking ceremony. Principal SHPTC Sajid Ameer Sadozai delivered the welcome address, highlighting the institution’s training standards. IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho outlined the force’s mission and acknowledged the provincial government’s continued support.

Focus on law and order

Addressing the recruits, the chief minister congratulated the newly passed-out personnel and described them as frontline defenders of citizens’ lives and property. He emphasized that crime control, arrest of offenders and enforcement of the rule of law remain the core responsibilities of the police force.

“Effective law enforcement strengthens public trust,” he said, urging the officers to perform their duties with integrity and professionalism.

Murad Ali Shah credited the Sindh Police with sustained operations against terrorism and crime, noting that improved law and order was the result of consistent efforts and sacrifices by security forces. He cautioned that vigilance must continue in view of regional security challenges.

Recent performance and future plans

The chief minister said police had recorded notable successes against dacoits in recent months and stressed the need for continued action against street crime, particularly in urban centres.

He described training as the backbone of policing and assured that training institutions would receive necessary facilities, within available resources, to develop into modern centres of excellence.

As part of welfare measures, he announced an increase in the monthly food allowance for police personnel to Rs10,000.

Infrastructure upgrades

To mark the occasion, the chief minister inaugurated the newly constructed “Bhittai Mess Hall,” with capacity for 300 trainees. Officials also highlighted additional facilities, including a 10-acre physical training ground for female trainees and a jogging track.

According to the principal, since its establishment in 1984, SHPTC has trained more than 94,000 officers for various national and provincial law enforcement agencies. He added that recruits undergo rigorous instruction in modern investigation techniques, technology usage and professional ethics to meet evolving security challenges.

The ceremony concluded with prize distribution for outstanding cadets, a general salute and a traditional march-past by the newly inducted officers.
