Tianjin: Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized promoting shared humanitarian values and setting a global example for cooperation during his address at the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Council Meeting in Tianjin. He highlighted China’s commitment to supporting SCO member countries in healthcare initiatives over the next five years, including treatment for 500 children with congenital heart disease, 5,000 cataract surgeries, and 10,000 cancer screenings.
Xi stressed that SCO should step forward to shoulder the responsibility of fostering open international cooperation globally.
Energy, Digital Economy, and Scientific Cooperation
President Xi announced plans to establish three major platforms for collaboration in energy, green industry, and the digital economy, along with three centers for cooperation in scientific innovation, higher education, and vocational training.
He pledged that in the next five years, China, in collaboration with SCO member states, will add 10 million kilowatts each to installed photovoltaic and wind power capacity.
Xi also highlighted plans to create a center for artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration, ensuring shared access to AI advancements and encouraging joint development among member countries. He invited SCO states to utilize the Baidu Satellite Navigation System and participate in international lunar research projects for countries with relevant capabilities.
Financial Support and Economic Cooperation
President Xi announced that China will provide 2 billion yuan (approximately $28.1 million) in grants to SCO member states this year. Over the next three years, member banks of the SCO Interbank Consortium will receive an additional 10 billion yuan in loans.
Xi highlighted that China’s investment in SCO member countries has exceeded $84 billion, with annual bilateral trade surpassing $500 billion, reflecting the deep economic integration between China and the SCO region.
Preserving History and Fostering Unity
Xi stressed China’s commitment to promoting an accurate historical perspective on World War II, working with all parties to safeguard the legacy of victory and advance global governance reforms. He underscored building a society with a shared future for humanity, emphasizing collective efforts for global benefits.
He urged SCO member states to set aside differences and cultivate consensus, describing all member countries as friends and partners. Xi called on nations to respect mutual differences, maintain strategic connectivity, promote consensus, and strengthen unity and cooperation.
SCO Approves Key Documents
During the Tianjin summit, SCO member leaders approved 24 major documents covering cooperation in security, economy, cultural exchange, and institutional development, further reinforcing the organization’s multi-sectoral collaboration.
